The Secret to Good Parenting

August 05, 2014

All parents make mistakes.

In good and bad parenting, similar mistakes are made.

Emotionally overreacting. Saying things you regret. Neglect.

A single difference between the two types of parenting:

In good parenting, those parents say "I'm sorry" afterwards.

They take responsibility by going to their kid and apologizing.

In bad parenting, those parents simply never discuss their mistake.

They pretend as though their mistake never happened.

Kids suppress this hurt and their emotional wounds heal slower.

Developing emotionally healthy kids starts with parenting.

Have you made a parenting mistake lately?

The secret is to acknowledge it, confess it, and seek forgiveness.
